Exciting updates on the Christmas Markets 7th & 8th December

Some exciting market updates for you that apply to BOTH events, the evening of Friday December 7th (4-9pm) and daytime of Saturday 8th December (9-4pm) – the biggest ever daytime market in Market Rasen, presented by MR BIG, the team behind the Portas Pilot work.

Radio adverts are go!

A series of radio adverts for the market are now running on Lincs FM. Click this link to have a listen (MP3 file):

Market Rasen BIG – Market 1

Snowman Trail up and down the high street:

With a copy distributed to all the children at Market Rasen, Middle Rasen, Tealby, Osgodby, Faldingworth and Legsby primary schools, our snowman trail should get plenty of families visiting all our high street shops, Friday and Saturday! HUGE thanks to our schools for supporting the high street this way, and to Market Rasen Racecourse fo the BIG prize.

Even more parking with the Market Rasen Lions providing marshals!

Market Rasen had loads of FREE parking, but the MR BIG markets have been so successful that our volunteer directors (prompted by a request from supporters on Facebook) have worked hard with local businesses and organisations to provide even more, and make our two Christmas events really pack the market and high street with people.

Park and Ride

Blanchards Taxis will be offering a taxi / bus service to Market Place from Market Rasen Racecourse ‘horse field’, on the left hand side of Legsby Rd after the houses and before the racecourse. Thank you so much to Pip Kirkby and the team at Market Rasen Racecourse for allowing this.

FREE small Car Parks opening around the town will be signed to

John St
Kilnwell Rd
The Chase

And MR BIG extends a huge thank you to local businesses for offering up their land for the good of the town.

Park and Stride

De Aston (overspill car park & roadside) will offer park and stride, with the high street around five minutes stride away. Another huge thank you to the school.

Gallamore Lane (roadside) also offers park and stride, about five minutes from the Festival Hall.

All car parks will have a marshal for Saturday’s market, courtesy of The Market Rasen Lions. Huge thanks to Graham Parrish, Secretary of the Lions who is organising this with his members.

Market Rasen Lions are always on the look out for new members. You will be assured of a warm welcome, so why not pop along and meet them in Festival Hall on Friday night to chat about how you could get involved in helping others. Find out more on The Lion’s Website. Find out more on The Lion’s Website.

The is also a train station stop off between Lincoln and Grimsby and the town is part of the No 3 Bus Route, or a Call Connect Bus can be booked 0845 2343344 (which operates until 7pm on Friday).

Dedicated Trader Parking

Secure parking for TRADERS only is at RHODES behind the old service centre on Oxford St – we urge all traders to use this and this alone to FREE up space for visitors so they can shop with you!

The Arena Cafe is back, raising funds for charity and as a pop up ‘wrapping station’!

The Arena Cafe re-opens just for our Christmas events – on Friday evening and all day Saturday and, offering a warm mince pie and hot drink for £1.00, with all proceeds going to charity – split 50:50 between the Nomad Trust in Lincoln and Harbour Lights in Grimsby.

Boots the Chemist has also donated a huge roll of wrapping paper to MR BIG which we’ve given to the volunteers at the Arena to be our high street ‘wrapping station’ at the markets. Do pop in and tell them how much we’d love to have our community cafe back!

Traders taking market stalls

Sarah Lamballe (MR BIG volunteer) and Louise Robinson from our fantastic traditional sweet shop Garnetts

Some of Market Rasen high street retailers will be trying their hand on the market for the first time on Saturday. Louise Robinson from Garnett’s will be popping up in Festival Hall with her babywear from Poppet’s and her distinctive and different Christmas treats, also available in her Christmas grotto in the back room of Garnett’s, which is also the place to hand in Snowman Trail leaflets with a guaranteed treat for every child that completes the trail and a chance to win a family ticket for Market Rasen Races on Boxing Day.

Steve Hine from Indulgence will also be taking a market stall and joining over 30 market traders in the Market Place, situated around the Christmas Tree in what promises to be MR BIG’s biggest and best market to date, which will also feature a cafe in Festival Hall and more stalls in Festival Hall car park.

Well done to everyone for pulling together to make this year’s traditional Lincolnshire Christmas in Market Rasen a success!

So please do come along, invite your friends from out of town, spend your pennies in the market and the high street and give Market Rasen the Christmas markets (don’t forget there are two) it deserves!
